Fall Garden at Go Away Farm

We are getting a freeze tonight at the farm. Mikki is getting her Mom settled back at home after a hip replacement surgery and I came to the farm to cover the Fall garden in preparation for tonight's frost. I was struck by the beauty of the vegetables and the late afternoon light. The colors were so rich that I really couldn't capture them with the camera.

Peppers, broccoli, beans, Chinese cabbage, squash, mustard and collard greens were all ready to pick. The tomatoes are all blooming and one plant is loaded with large tomatoes. Covering it was like saying goodbye to the summer... and maybe it was. Of course, it is now that the navel oranges start to turn from green to orange. Last weekend, Diane cut a couple that had fallen from the tree and they were actually delicious, even though they weren't quite ripe enough. We ate them anyway. We have about 25 left on the tree. It is the first year of a large harvest from this three year old tree. It should bear well going forward. I can't wait for the next two years on the new fruit trees, grapes and berries.
The good news from the front that passed is that all of the lakes are brimming full! That is so wonderful.

Molly, Grey, and Mikki

Molly and Grey at church today with MikMik. Grey is 8 days old and looking great. He is quite attentive. When his eyes are open, he is taking in all the surroundings. Jack and Mom seem to be adjusting to his new little brother quite nicely.

The Fly-by

Dan Leveritt and Dirk Laukien took me up from the Brenham airport for a fly-over of the farm on Friday afternoon. It was a spectacularly clear Fall day. We couldn't have asked for a more beautiful clear time to fly. We were in Dan's new 2007 Cessna Skylane. Sure was a lot nicer than the 1959 version I took a lesson in (and determined that I'd rather drive). The "glass cockpit" looked like something out of a passenger jet. Very modern aircraft and a lot of fun to ride in the back seat. I wasn't fond of Dirk working on "leaning" up the engine and tweaking the propeller during flight. I'd just as soon eat up gasoline than to mess with it, but he is a very experienced pilot and I soon got use to his fiddling with things. We had a great day.  The farm seemed so unreal from the air. Just seems like so much work on the ground and so easily maintained from the air:-)

Halloween Celebration!

Amber with the twins at Go Away Farm carving pumpkins.

Molly and baby Grey, born on Halloween Day! His shirt said, "I Luv My Mummy"
And if it isn't Sarah Palin and John McCain!  aka Caroline and Brody Saintes. He actually looked almost just like John McCain when he walked.  And she wasn't far from Governor Palin either.
And Jack showed up dressed like a lizzard. Or maybe that's a dinosaur?

Luke Greyson "Grey" Arrives!

Grey Ensey arrived right on time at 4:38 p.m. Friday, October 31, 2008, Halloween Day! He weighed 8 lbs and was 21" long! Molly was about 5 lbs lighter than with Jack so I automatically thought this guy would be 6lbs, 8 oz's. I was badly mistaken! Mikki guessed it almost to a tee.

We are thrilled to have our newest grandson join the family! He'll have a good trio ahead of him to introduce him into the Walters' family traditions.
Congratulations Molly and Jonathan!
